The 25 Must-Have Pineapple Products for Summer 2016

As I alluded to last week, pink flamingos were the “it” item last summer. From clothing to pool accessories and everything in between, flamingos were emblazoned on everything. I sure fell for the trend hook, line, and sinker, as evidenced here. If you are still a fervent flamingo fan, fear not. I’m not here to take your flamingo away from you or even tell you your flamingo is no longer cool. But I do want to introduce you to the theme of summer 2016…

This summer will be all about the pineapple!

Prickly pineapples are popping up on products everywhere. What’s not to love about the pineapple? Besides it being a deliciously tasty fruit, the pineapple is widely regarded as a very positive symbol.

The pineapple has been seen as a symbol of hospitality and luxury for centuries. According to historical accounts, Christopher Columbus first encountered pineapple during his second trip while in the Caribbean. When they took the pineapples back to Europe, the pineapples were viewed as a luxury, as European farmers weren’t yet able to grow the fruit. The royals would even gift pineapples to their distinguished guests. When a guest was invited to a party where a whole pineapple was shared, that guest knew that no expense had been spared in welcoming him.

Also, for my fellow shoe lovers, you have probably noticed that Aquazzura shoes have a subtle yet noticeable gold pineapple on the sole of each shoe. When I had the chance to visit with designer Edgardo Osorio last fall, I asked the designer about the significance of that pineapple. He shared that the pineapple is both a sign of good fortune and a nod to his Colombian homeland.

Without further ado, check out the 25 must have pineapple products of the season. From home to fashion to entertaining, from $9 to several hundred dollars, there’s something for everyone! Remember, you can click directly on the items in the collage to shop them.

I simply must point out my favorite: the Gray Malin pineapple print that headlines this article. I have been a long-time fan and collector of Gray’s whimsical, playful, travel-inspired photographs. So, I was delighted to hear of his upcoming book Beaches. The book will be released in just a few short weeks. Right now, you can pre-order a signed copy. The hard-bound book with a pressed gold foil cover and filled with 144 pages of his awe-inspiring photos is bound to be a beautiful addition to any coffee table.
