About Francesco Russo

If you have been around here for any length of time, you know that I love introducing you to new designers. Today, I’m very excited to share with you a relatively new-to-me shoe designer: Francesco Russo. Simply put, I am head-over-heels in love with his designs.

Did these shoes catch your eyes when I wore them here with this Sachin & Babi dress? They certainly caught my eye when I spotted them online at Net-a-Porter, so I had to investigate these unique designs and their designer further…

What sparked Francesco Russo’s love for shoe design? It started at a young age as the Italian observed his mother and sisters. I love this quote, taken from his website:

“I was looking at my mother and my sisters getting dressed. As soon as they wore heels, they immediately turned into magnificent creatures.”

Isn’t that true? If shoes have the power to transform a woman, his will certainly transform you into a strong, feminine, seductive creature.

Known for his architectural and sleek designs, he loves to take a classic silhouette and give it a modern twist. He plays a delicate balance between femininity and fierceness. He likes to honor timeless craftsmanship while still having an experimental vision.

One of his signatures is this flame-like fan at the heel (as shown above) that elongates a woman’s leg even further, especially when combined with the narrow stiletto.

Today, he is seen as one of the hottest new accessories designers of the moment. How did that come to be? Not only is he inspired by his homeland of Italy, he is also very influenced by French design.

Early in his career, he designed shoes for Miu Miu. Later, he relocated to Paris to design for what was then known as Yves Saint Laurent. He designed alongside Tom Ford, helping to transform YSL. Finally, just two short years ago in late 2013, he made the leap to launch his own eponymous line.
