Your Guide to the Very Best Pizza in Houston

Written by Julie Weinstein

Pizza has always been and will always be a favorite food of many. There’s just something about the combination of that hot crust, melted cheese, and delicious toppings that is sort of, well, addicting, if you ask me. When it comes to pizza, people might often think of Chicago and NYC first and foremost, but Houston has some incredible pizza options here in town. In fact, we had trouble narrowing this list down!

So, in polling the Houston Wear + Where + Well girls, we’ve pulled together our top 15 favorite pizza places in Houston. And, by the way, did you know today is Pi Day? That’s right, Pi Day honors the mathematically significant constant 3.141592… for number nerds like Carrie – ha! But when we hear “pi”, we think pizza! So, we figured this is the perfect guide to put up today, especially because one of our favorites is none other than Pi Pizza.

Our 15 Favorite Pizza Places in Houston

Keep on scrolling for our 15 favorite pizza places in Houston, listed in alphabetical order. As well, you’ll find a Google map below to help you locate each one.

1. Bollo Woodfired Pizza

2202 W Alabama St A, Houston, TX 77098

Neapolitan pizza is the name of the game at Bollo. The crust is just the right amount of crispy, and they put the perfect amount of cheese and sauce on top. With it being baked in an 800 degree wood fired oven, it comes out hot and absolutely delicious.

2. Cane Rosso

4306 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006

It’s no surprise Cane Rosso pizza tastes so authentically Italian because owner Jay Jerrier took inspiration from his time spent in Italy and then trained with Master Pizzaiolos at the Associazone Verace Pizza Napoletana, which is an organization that promotes and protects the true craft of Neapolitan style pizza. Yes, there is really an organization for this! If you want to have a little slice (pun intended) of Italy here in Houston, this is the spot.

3. Coltivare Pizza & Garden

3320 White Oak Dr, Houston, TX 77007

An extremely popular spot more than worth the long waits, Coltivare is a neighborhood spot that is equally homey as it is cool. You can get a basic tomato, basil, mozzarella pizza (although really nothing is basic at this restaurant), or you can dive into something like their revival pepperoni one or brussels sprouts option.

4. Dolce Vita

500 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006

Another home to Neapolitan pizza, this one definitely tops my list. In the heart of Montrose, Dolce Vita offers such a variety of pizzas, ranging from margherita to zucca (butternut squash, pancetta, smoked bufala mozzarella, and red onion). It’s cozy inside, and it’s an ideal spot any night of the week (except Monday’s, as that is the one day they are closed).

5. Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

12848 Queensbury Ln #101, Houston, TX 77024

Depending on where you live in Houston, this one might be a bit of a drive for you, but it’s definitely worth it. Grimaldi’s menu is no fuss; pick your size pie, your toppings, and you’re all set. They have a secret dough that gets cooked in their coal fired brick ovens, and they bake it to absolute perfection.

6. Kenneally’s Irish Pub

2111 S Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77019

Alright, I know it sounds a bit strange that we have an Irish pub on the best pizza list. However, before you knock it, you gotta try it. Kenneally’s is a favorite of both mine and Carrie’s, as it’s down the block from where we both live, and their pizza truly is delicious. Their made-from-scratch Chicago style thin crust pizza hits the spot every time.

Carrie says they always order  the shamrock pizza, which is especially fitting for St. Patrick’s Day coming up in a few days!

7. Luna Pizzeria

3435 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX 77098

A Houston staple, Luna Pizzeria is consistently good. They have six signature pizzas or you can build your own with a variety of topping choices. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Margherita, and while that sounds ‘boring,’ it’s not at Luna.

8. Pi Pizza

181 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77007

One of the things we love so much about Pi Pizza is that they use locally sourced, house made, one of a kind ingredients. They have some unique pizza options, as well, such as The Grizzly Hawaiian and Sgt Pepper Redux, and each one is so incredibly delicious in their own right. We’re thrilled Pi Pizza opened a brick and mortar location in The Heights. Also mentioned in our ‘HTX To Go’ guide.

9. Pink’s Pizza

710 W Gray St, Houston, TX 77019

This one is a fan favorite in our household (we’ve gone on stints where we’ll order it at least once a week). Pink’s Pizza’s authentic hand tossed pizza pies are some of the best in town. They have tons of choices, and their delivery is fast. This one certainly tops my list.

10. Piola

3201 Louisiana St #103, Houston, TX 77006

Having just celebrated their 30th anniversary, Piola has been around a while, and for good reason. Their thin crust pizzas are made to order in their open-fire brick oven with dough that’s made fresh daily. I’m also a fan of their white pizza. So good.

11. Pizza L’Vino

544 Waugh Dr, Houston, TX 77019

Pizza L’Vino is another one we order quite often. I’m especially a fan of their thin crust wheat crust because it makes my pizza obsession seem somewhat healthier! The men behind this great spot is a New Yorker and a Chicagoan, and those are two cities which know pizza. You can get hand tossed, deep dish, ultra thin, or gluten free. And, bonus, they’ll deliver wine and beer with your pizza, and what’s better than that?

12. Pizaro’s Pizza

1000 W Gray St, Houston, TX 77019

What started as a hobby of making pizza turned into a business a few years later. Pizaro’s is where you’ll find authentic Naples style pizza. Owner Bill Hutchinson also got his certification as a Pizzaiolo from the “Verace Pizza Napoletana” organization and trained under the watchful eye of master pizza chef Peppe Miele. You can tell this place is serious about their pizza, and it shows in every bite.

13. Reginelli’s Pizzeria

5303B Bissonnet St, Bellaire, TX 77401

If you’re in the mood for hand tossed pizza that you can’t eat just one piece of, Reginelli’s might just be the place for you to go. It’s a casual spot with great service, and everything you could want in your pizza.

14. Romano’s Pizza

1528 W Gray St, Houston, TX 77019

Another neighborhood favorite, I frequent Romano’s quite often. I love the New York pizza joint vibe inside, which makes sense because owners Frank and Vinny worked in NYC pizza places to perfect the art of pizza making for over 15 years. You can get pizza by the slice or a whole pie, and their NY style pizza is no fuss and just right.

15. Star Pizza

2111 Norfolk St, Houston, TX 77098

Two chicagoans moved to Houston and realized there wasn’t a spot for great, delicious pizza. Thus, Star Pizza was born (in 1976). It’s been around a long while, and it’s a favorite of Houstonians. They offer hand-tossed New York style and deep dish Chicago style, so you’ll certainly find something you like on their vast menu.

We have a Grimaldi’s up here in The Woodlands and I love it! I also really like RC’s pizza up in The Woodlands as well. It’s no frills lots of family’s and little league baseball teams but it’s really good and great to watch a Football game at, plus good wings!

Yes – I’ve been to that Grimaldi’s in The Woodlands on the Waterway! Good to know about RC’s too! Thanks for commenting.
