The Best Off-the-Shoulder Tops of the Season

Off-the-shoulder tops. Friends, we are witnessing a trend with staying power. When off-the-shoulder tops were first spotted on the street style trendsetters two years ago, or even when they popped up on everyone last year, some still contended the trend was fleeting.

However, the popularity of off-the-shoulder tops again this season is proving to us all that the trend is here to stay for a while – and for good reason! Last year, I gave you 3 good reasons to try the trend.

  1. The trend is flattering on all.
  2. It is sexy in a subtle and classy way.
  3. It will transition perfectly from spring to summer.

If you need any more convincing, Fashionista, Glamour, and StyleCaster all named it one of the top wearable trends for spring from the Spring 2016 runways.

Rather than try to convince you further of your need to add one of these to your closet this season, I’d like to focus on giving you options at every price point. I’ve rounded up over 70 off-the-shoulder tops that I love this season. To make browsing easier for you, please allow me to segregate them by price-point. Recognizing that everyone’s shopping budget is different, I will give them names based solely on their relative price-point: “steal” indicates a price less than $150, “sensible” equates to a price point between $150 and $500, and anything over $500 is considered a splurge here.

Take a gander through each category, and let me know your favorites. I’d love to hear! As always, details of my look can be found at the bottom of this article.

What a great read, thanks Carrie!:) I have been looking at off the shoulder tops for a few days and I think I finally need to press buy! I really like some of the great patterns in these tops, could be a good way to bring patterns back into my closet! Of course your photos and your outfit are beautiful!<3 I want to come to Houston so badly to use that incredible wall! I really wish Vancouver could create some beautiful are like that! I hope your having a great Monday!!

    1. Carrie says:

Thanks, Sydney! Yes – check them out… There are some great bargains! Definitely something that will be on repeat through the warm months.

I’m with Sydney…I wish Vancouver would create some great walls like this.

The tops are pretty! Not sure if I would do the off the shoulder look as I like to wear a bra (mostly to give my small size some shape), so not too sure if I’d feel comfortable without one, or even a strapless one.

    Thanks for the fun post.

Hi Sheri – yes, we are so glad to have this wall in particular in Houston! So many colorful options on this one wall.

I used to struggle with that issue with off-the-shoulder tops too. I finally found a strapless bra that is relatively comfortable on me. Plus, I look for off the shoulder tops with a big thick elastic band to keep it secure, plus a nice quality fabric with some thickness to it.

Thanks as always for reading and commenting. 🙂

  3. Anastasia says:

Caroline Constas ones happen to be the ones I like the most, hehe! Adore their slightly undressed vibe they give.

And yeah, it’s incredible how popular this trend is becoming! I do feel like trends are in a way a thing of the past, but in this case – they’re literally everywhere! I’ve been reviewing the “trends” at the World Figure Skating Championships a few weeks ago, and even there you could spot a few skaters rocking the off-the-shoulder dresses (Gabriella Papadakis looked stunning!).

    1. Carrie says:

Anastasia – no surprise, I agree wholeheartedly with you. Caroline Constas makes the best off-the-shoulder pieces. From a practical standpoint, I love how secure they stay, while the elastic is not too tight. Just perfect.

Oh I’ll have to check out the skating looks! Thanks for the tip.

  4. I have a question. I have a large breast. And if like very much off the shoulder tops, I have the feeling it exaggerates the … Volume. A particular shape to recommend, to prevent this ?

    1. Carrie says:

Good question! I don’t have that issue, but can certainly understand the predicament. Even being smaller, I feel a little overexposed in some off-the-shoulder tops. I also feel like some of them aren’t going to stay in place.

So I personally like and would recommend styles like the one I’m wearing — with a thicker elastic band that will keep it nice and secure, and then a shape that floats away from the body.

In my opinion, Caroline Constas (http://bit.ly/1VhyJaJ) does the best job with this particular style.
