Hello – Hannah Lyons here. I am the newest addition to the team as the intern of Wear + Where + Well. Integrating into the fashionable life of Carrie is an intern’s dream, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Feel free to take a glimpse here and here of some recent posts I’ve been in.
Also if you haven’t yet, take a peek at my latest work last week on Friday Favorite Finds, spotlighting summer’s most stylish sunglasses!
70’s Inspiration
Choosing my first spotlight outfit was an easy choice. I’ve long been enamored with the trends of the 70’s. They encapsulate the era’s free spirit vibes so well. So it was only fitting l that I chose an iconic piece of the time: a jumpsuit!
The women of the 70’s era – Cher, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Margaret Thatcher, to name a few – fully embraced female empowerment. They challenged the boundaries of sexuality and female roles. They were a breath of fresh air and harkened the way for many of us ladies today.
While being all-around icons, these women exhibited incredible fashion acumen. Cher sported extravagant hairpieces and chunky platforms. Thatcher, always keeping it classy, wore rainbow suits and pussy bow blouses. And a personal favorite, DVF released her iconic wrap dress in 1974 – a silk jersey dress fit for women of all shapes. Bless you, Diane, for making such a classic, staple item!
9 Favorite 70’s Inspired Trends
When I think of the 70’s, here are nine of the top fashion trends that come to my mind.
- Suits of all kinds – pant suits, jump suits, track suits
- Oversized sunglasses
- Platform shoes
- Flare tops and bottoms
- A-line skirts/miniskirts
- Bright and bold prints
- Sweeper dresses (today known as maxi dresses)
- High-wasted bottoms
- Statement jewelry – bold & gold
As you can tell from my outfit, I went all out – fitting as many of these 70’s trends into one outfit as I could. 😉
Top 12 Summer Jumpsuits
Would you like to jump on this 70’s trend train? A jumpsuit is a great place to start! The wonderful thing about jumpsuits is that they’re an outfit unto themselves. No need to pick out a matching top and bottom. Throw it on, and you’re ready to go!
I also like the versatility of jumpsuits. You can dress them up or down. My advice – pair it with some wedges and gold hoop earrings. You’ll have a totally seventies, yet very posh look. But then if you want to dress it up, you can go luxe with a pair of pointy-toe heels, pearl earrings, and a classic clutch.
I fell in love with my Novella Royale jumpsuit. The silhouette and the print both screamed 70’s to me! I was nervous about the length, since I am 5’3″. Nevertheless, the length worked just fine, especially since I paired it with some platform sandals. The print was popping, and I loved the light material. It’s great for the summer heat. Quite honestly, I couldn’t help but dance during the shoot. There’s something about bell-bottoms that make grooving so fun! I highly recommend this jumpsuit if you are looking to buy.
Embrace your inner bunny (70’s lingo for ‘cute girl’) and feel the funk! Throw on a jumpsuit and let’s get down & boogie!
