Friday Favorite Finds : Mustard

Hello everyone, and happy Friday!

Without wasting a second, we’re talking color once again! And today we are going wild about mustard. We seriously can’t get enough of this autumnal hue. Keep reading to see what colors we’ve covered thus far in our Fall 2016 Color Story and why we are so obsessed with the color mustard!

Fall 2016 Color Story

In light of cooler weather and pumpkin spice lattes, we’ve covered the colors that speak “fall”. We’ve taken great care in sharing fall 2016’s most popular hues. In case you missed any, not to worry! For your viewing pleasure, we’ve listed all of them below. In the past few months, we’ve covered the following fall colors:

Equally important, we’re adding to our list of seven with one of my very favorites, mustard!

The Unexpected Fall Color : Mustard

Whether you consider it gold, dandelion, canary, or ochre, the color is a total must for the fall season. First, I’m almost positive my obsession for this color sprouted from my adoration for Wes Anderson films. His color schemes are to die for and he never fails to incorporate mustard in his film palettes.

Secondly, in case you missed Pantone’s Fashion Color Report for Fall 2016, they listed “spicy mustard” as one of their official colors. Pantone states that the color :

• Adds another splash of uplifting vibrancy
• A spicier, zestier Yellow than previous seasons
• Unexpected and unusual
• Comes through in both the abstract and geometric accents that designers employed

If that’s not authoritative enough for you, I don’t know what is!

How to Wear Mustard

Furthermore, mustard is definitely “unexpected and unusual.” Especially since so many of us are afraid to wear it! Trust us, though, this is not a color to fear!

With regards to this, try pairing mustard with black, grays, reds, and greens. I prefer matching the color with hues tinted with black, like burgundy and forest green. I also really like accessorizing my mustard statement pieces with gold and black jewelry.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to go full-blown with a dress or top, try adding mustard in small spurts. Attempt the color by trying it in your eye makeup or sporting some mustard flats. For example, this eyeshadow and these flats are perfect ways to add some flair with mustard.
